Stairway Chair Lift - Don't Let Your Age Force You To
Move
Here's an all to common situation.
Someone has lived in a two story house for many, many years.
But as they get older they find they can no longer go up and
down the stairs. They don't want to sell the house and move,
but may feel like they have no choice. The truth is they do
have a choice. They can get a stairway chair
lift.
The stairs are no longer a problem, and the person retains
their freedom and independence since they can now go up and
down comfortably and safely.
The type of stairway chair lift you need obviously depends
on the type of staircase you have. You can get either a
straight or curved lift.
As you would expect, the curved lift is needed only when a
staircase has turns in it. These however, will be more costly
since they have to be custom fitted to the house and
staircase.
If however you have a simple straight staircase, a straight
stairway chair lift is perfect. It's easier to install and more
flexible. There's a good chance that you can find one pre made
that will fit in your home, but if not, customization is a
little easier.
Whoever you are buying from can easily help you figure out
the right style of lift that will work best in your home.
Sometimes it's not as easy as it seems. For instance if you
have a staircase that is basically two staircases with a
landing pad and a 90 degree turn, you'll have a choice to make.
You can go with two straight lifts or install a curved stairway
lift. As we mentioned, a straight lift is generally less
costly. And it will install faster because other than the
length of the track, there's really not too much difference
between straight lifts.
If however you decide you should go with a curved chair
lift, you'll benefit from not having to transfer from one lift
to another at the landing pad. Going with a straight lift
generally requires you to get out at the landing pad and get on
to the second lift, and that can be a pain.
Of course there are other drawbacks to the curved lift
besides price. It requires more maintenance, and is tougher and
takes longer to setup. And it will put more stress on your
rails as well.
Again, in these instances it's best to get recommendations
from the company that will be installing your stairway chair
lift. And of course, work with them to stay within your budget
as well. The company will also work with you on some of the
available options. You can get your stairway chair lift with
seats that swivel, push button operation, a joystick control
and moveable arm rests. They'll be more than happy to go over
all these options with you.
