A Vertical Wheel Chair Lift Provides Additional
Freedom
A wheel chair provides a tremendous amount of freedom to a
person who, for whatever reason, happens to be confined to
one.
A vertical wheel chair lift will add to
that freedom. Let's face it, the wheelchair is wonderful for
anyone who, due to injury, disease or age, has no other
options. And while the mobility they give is great, there are
still plenty of challenges that must be faced. Some of those
challenges can be overcome with a vertical wheel chair
lift.
We're talking about challenges like steps, landings, cars,
stairs or narrow doors. How, for instance, can a person get
from the first floor to the fourth floor of a building?
Obviously the answer lies in an elevator. And the wheelchair
lift gives anyone access to different building levels and
landings.
A vertical wheel chair lift is smaller than what would be
considered a typical elevator. They can be used in a home,
business or on a landing. A home lift would simply go through
an opening in the floor to give access to a different floor,
very much like a normal elevator. But it would do it without
having a sealed off elevator shaft.
In spite of new laws to make public building handicapped
accessible, there are a few buildings that cannot, due to
access problems, install a wheel chair ramp. The solution lies
in a wheel chair platform They all function basically the same
way. Button are located in the lift where a person in a wheel
chair can reach them. This is similar to any other elevator
button. Select your floor, push the button, and away you go. In
this example of a vertical elevator, the doors will either open
automatically or a person will push a button to open them.
However elevators made specifically for wheel chairs are
generally small. Typically there is only enough space for the
person in the chair and one other person. This is so the other
person can push the chair out if necessary in cases where the
chair is not electrically propelled. Getting into the elevator
is just a matter of pushing a button and the doors open. The
chair is rolled into the lift, and the door or gate is closed
behind you. Another button is pushed and you are on your way up
or down.
A vertical wheel chair lift can be powered by either
electricity of hydraulics. Once you get to the floor you want
to go, open the door and roll the wheel chair out.
So while wheel chairs generally enhance freedom, that
freedom is enhanced even more by a vertical wheel chair lift.
It lets people access different floors at home or work. They
can get to places they would otherwise not be able to
reach.
